Event Background

  • The Pawtuckaway Ice Golf Tournament started as a small local with a single purpose: winter fun.
  • A nine hole course was designed starting in Tuckaway Shores, stretching across the lake towards Mountain Brook Cove and back to the Tuckaway Shores Beach.
  • Over the years, the Open has grown to involve many residents of the Pawtuckaway Lake area, as well as friends and associates of the event organizers.
  • The event typically attract 85-100 attendees from New Hampshire and Massachusetts and is equally represented by serious golfers, committed hackers, chili chefs, and pure fun seekers.
  • Various prizes are awarded for both the golf tournament and chili competition.

In 2001, The Pawtuckaway Open was transformed into a charity event benefiting Families in Transition, a non-profit agency that provides safe, affordable transitional housing to homeless women with or without children. Participants also receive comprehensive supportive services, including support groups, workshops and computer/employment training.

Ninety percent of FIT participants complete the program and achieve economic and emotional sufficiency, enabling them to live independent and healthy lives. It is this amazing success rate that led the event sponsors to choose FIT-NH as the benefiting organization.

Total Fundraising

The event raises money through greens fees and chili fees. Additional contributions are typically made by individual attendees and in 2003 we introduced hole sponsorships. All proceeds go directly to Families in Transition; the event sponsors cover fees such as food, paper goods, and prizes.
